Innovative Robotic Video Measurement System

OGP, the video measuring machine specialist, has joined forces with Europe’s largest robot manufacturer to show how the latest generation of automation can help boost inspection tasks.

A KUKA KR5 robot was used to pick and place Gillette razor blades into a SmartScope CNC 250 multi-sensor system at Inspex to highlight how automatic loading can further enhance the machine’s rapid capabilities for measuring injection moulded components.

The user-friendly, bench top 3D video measurement machine is suitable not only for inspecting mouldings, but also for gauging tooling tolerances. The system incorporates a pair of monitors for displaying the inspection sequence and Real-Time Statistical Process Control data.

“This robot-fed machine showcases the remarkable time-saving ability to load components from an injection moulding machine into an OGP SmartScope video measuring machine that provides fast, consistently accurate, statistical analysis for production personnel without any human intervention,” stated Andrew Fulton, OGP UK’s managing director.

Kuka & OGP Smartscope CNC“It means information can be obtained very quickly so that product quality can be maintained more effectively while any problems can be easily identified and rectified, minimising production downtime,” he added.

The machine also features OGP’s patented AccuCentric 12:1 zoom lens, which is able to maintain accuracy as the magnification alters due to a rapid automatic, self-calibrating facility, and series of SmartRing LED white lights that deliver the ability to pinpoint light from an infinite number of directions to detect exactly the correct feature.

Stanley“The ZIP 250 has become an integral part of our laboratory, it has taken our quality inspection and measurement capability to another level. This piece of equipment undoubtedly helps keep Stanley at the leading edge of the industry.”
