Zoom lens offer flexibility to measure at different magnifications to suit the feature being measured. This, in practice, allows for faster and more accurate sampling.

Zoom lenses; however, come with inherent optical inaccuracies that allow the image to wander during magnification changes causing positional inaccuracies.

OGP’s patented solution to this problem is an auto-calibration routine that corrects the errors on the fly.

Auto-calibration occurs when the motorised zoom optics are driven to a known step position. Once in position the camera automatically measures a calibrated reticule consisting of a pattern of concentric rings, this measurement determines size and position. The data is used to correct the machines error table to maintain absolute accuracy.
